How to Organise a Football Tournament
A good tournament starts with a clear structure, realistic timings and one reliable source of information for teams, referees and organisers.
1. Define the event
Choose the date, venue, age groups, playing format and maximum number of teams before opening registration.
- Set a clear arrival and start time
- Confirm pitch capacity and changing facilities
- Write entry, cancellation and safeguarding rules
2. Open registration
Collect only the information you need, confirm every successful entry and keep payment status visible to the organising team.
- Team and club name
- Age group and ability level
- Lead contact and emergency number
- Payment or deposit status
3. Build the schedule
Allow enough time for every match, changeover, breaks and knockout progression. Protect a minimum rest period so teams are not scheduled back-to-back.
- Name pitches clearly
- Check every team’s game count
- Test for pitch and team clashes
- Publish only after a final organiser review
4. Run the day
Give referees a focused schedule, let teams find their own fixtures quickly and keep an emergency announcement route ready.
- Record arrivals
- Confirm scores promptly
- Approve tables before knockout fixtures
- Publish winners and final statistics
