Fixture Lab case study
Multi-Format Football Festival Planning
The aim was to preserve a compact event while letting every group experience four formats and avoiding constant movement between playing areas.
The structure
Groups were paired into eight-round blocks. One pair started at 3v3, another at 4v4 and another at 1v1/2v2, then all pairs rotated together.
- 24 rounds
- Four playing rounds and four rest rounds per block
- Only two major format moves
- Dedicated pitch and team plans
What changed
The first all-groups-at-one-format model created unnecessary pitch demand and a much longer day. Rotating group pairs between formats kept all playing areas active at the same time.
- Venue capacity stayed balanced
- The original event duration was protected
- Staff could brief movement in advance
The lesson for organisers
Optimising movement does not mean running one format at a time. It means keeping each team in a predictable zone while the venue continues operating at full capacity.
